My wife's parents were controlling. One night she snuck out of her window with just a few clothes to her name. We went and got married the next day. We have now been married for over 43 years and I couldn't imagine my life without her. I know she feels the same way because she shows me every day.

I think one of the important parts of this movie is that the mother drives the daughter to show her the man she(the mother) was in love with and how he is also "trash" aka poor and still working a manual labor job. She tries to explain that while the daughter might think she loves the guy she doesn't understand what she is giving up by settling for the first good looking guy who fell for her.
