I've been bitten by a horsefly a few times..... It is extremely painful.... I can only imagine how horrible it is to have it bite you and not be able to remove it
You need a cordial contract with a friendly neighborhood spider to pass those off to.

I always wondered why it hurts so bad when they bite. They are pool feeders- meaning they remove a large enough piece of flesh for the blood to pool so they can slurp it up.

Those things have the most painful bites
At least mosquitoes make the bite painless and leave only an itch, horse flies will make a big bleeding hole, drink from it, and leave it to keep bleeding

Dragonflies are actually the superior predator for horseflies, so that’s why people get the fake dragonflies to put on their horses to scare the horseflies away and it actually works because horseflies have decent vision. A moving dragonfly is better so instead of just securing the fake one on there, get a tall thin metal spring so it can move a little bit when the horse moves or when it moves its neck or tail.
