Gen V also introduced hidden abilities, and it was the first region outside of Japan, so I feel like those have some relevance.
Just noticed that HM, is also an acronym for "Herba Mystica". Which Koraidon and Miraidon eat in order to gain the abilities to: Surf, Fly, and Rock Climb. (Yes im slow) Edit: Yes i am very aware HM stands for "Hidden Machines". I just thought it was interesting that herbs shared the same acronym
Forgot to mention, Gen 2 also added COLORS
0:11 its not an mandjtv video without an (admittedly unecessary) but extremely pleasing to look at list that only appears for 30 seconds total
Video idea: Create the mount rushmore of each pokemon type. You select the most iconic, popular, and beloved pokemon. It doesn't have to be the strongest. You can base it off popularity, vgc, and more.
Registering a Key Item to the Select button in Gen2 was huge for me as a kid. No need to re-open the menu each time when fishing.
Sponsored by Dragon Village 3. Play today! /4ykBUVh also I forgot hidden abilities for Gen 5 🤦 not enough to move it up a slot IMO, but should have been mentioned oh and also exp share change in Gen 6 and the "do you want to use another repel" thing in Gen 5 **sigh** I suppose things will slip through the cracks when going over 30 years of gaming history
Can't believe you left out Gen 2's greatest feature that's still present to this day. THE EXP BAR. In Gen 1 you had to check after every single battle how many exp points you needed to level up.
You forgot to add one credit to Unova/Gen 5, and that is that it's the first Pokemon region to be based on a real life location that isn't Japan. That has been the case for every new Pokemon region ever since, except for the minor region of Kitakami. That is significant because it allows more creativity in region design.
Pretty sure Gen 2 also introduced new Pokeball variants (via apricorns) beyond the base 4 (Poke, Great, Ultra, Master)
Gen 2 actually does have a move feature between boxes it’s just a bit different Also In gen 2 Bill calls your phone when your box is full
Honestly if not for Gen 2, the franchise may not have continued... Besides, they even changed the type matchups!
28:10 Mystery Gift was introduced in Gen 2, not Gen 3, although you could argue it was updated to what we know it as today in Gen 3.
With gen 5 they did add Hidden Abilities which did survive so I'm not sure if that would boost its ranking. Also to boost gen 7, Auras were introduce which followed in Titans and also gen 7 introduced seeing your trainer and opponents in battle and also made all NPC's use other pokeballs in battle even the technically in older gens but it wasn't all. Gen 2 introduced pokemon genders too
5:30 What about Hidden Abilities?
Gen 2 also added a proper Post Game section. Gen 1 had cerulean cave as the post game but wasnt really anything notable since it was just basically to catch Mewtwo while Gen 2 added an actual post game.
One more important change to battles in Gen 8 was the introduction of dynamic speed, with moves like scary face and tailwind (and stat changes from form changes like mega-evolution, though that specifically wasn't in the generation of course) taking effect immediately, not only after the turn. Gen 2 also introduced gender as a proper mechanic.
14:40 Don't forget: Gen 8 also introduced Experience Candy, a vast improvement to powering up weaker Pokemon instead of grinding.
You forgot to mention that gen 6 gave us the new exp share. Sure it’s a divisive change, but it has been the norm since and has made the game much easier for new players Edit: oh and wonder/surprise trades too plus the GTS I think
We need a mandjtv Pokemon champions experience (ik him and John played on their patreon channel but I want one where only Mikey plays and experiences the game)
