i absolutely love how forbidden solitaire ends "please stop playing the game, theres an evil demon trapped inside!" "yeah i killed him" "you what"
I'm not falling for your wild goose "cursed" and "lost" games anymore Mr. Sagan.
Wizard who rhymes but hates that he does it would be a funny character.
The story of Forbidden Solitaire is like Inscryption if it was developed the same way Origin Systems were forced to develop Ultima games by EA. Truly a terrifying tale.
i like how "Will Roberta" and "Shannon Sierra" is a nod to Roberta Williams and Sierra games
For no good reason, "There's no REASON for it to be this violent! It's fucking Solitaire!!!" consistently bowls me over.
Part of me wants that solitaire game as a standalone roguelite, it looks really fun
"Game dev who makes impossible promises" will almost always primarily be a dig at Peter Molyneux, for me, but it sure is applicable to multiple people.
Forbidden Solitaire is also packed with references: "William Roberta" is Roberta Williams (King's Quest & Phantasmagoria), "Romero's Reviews" is John Romero (DOOM), "Rachael Garriot" is Richard Garriott (Ultima & Tabula Rasa)
seeing people combine solitaire with a dungeon crawler/roguelike experience is so cool, to add a meta-narrative ON TOP of that already creative premise really makes me want to play the game now
Never would I ever have predicted Sagan and the McElroy brothers colliding
Instantly recognised that helmet as being from knightmare. The idea of what is basically if knightmare was an scp style thing is hilarious
Sagan Hawkes and Virtual Carbon perfectly tap into that "creepy media on a smaller scale" niche
12:25 This is 1000% a reference to Peter Molyneux and all his promises regarding FABLE.
This was just uploaded a minute ago, hour are there ten hour old comments 😭
13:00 I dunno, I actually got more of a Peter Molyneux vibe with the big promises and "taking a family for yourself"/"crowning an heir" gameplay.
Frontiers of the Mind using actual stills from British game show Knightmare is funny. Imagine someone coming up with a lost American game show called "Sins of the Fathers" and it's stills of Family Feud with Steve Harvey's face smudged out.
1:05 potion seller, give me your strongest potion
"I have countless pages of concepts and very few ever see the light of day" Me, sitting at my desk with another open notebook (while nine more are stacked behind my current notebook, all full of handwritten pages regarding concepts and projects): He just had to call me out like that, huh... Thanks Sagan. Thanks for literally looking through the monitor and seeing me writing yet another notebook that will never be touched or looked at again after I close it.
As soon I saw the title I thought "wow this sounds like Forbidden Solitaire!" And lo and behold it's the very first game you talk about! I really liked the puzzle/combat gameplay loop and the story was so campy and fun, especially with the videos.
