80% of the industry? What a load of bull they're including dlc , micro transactions , and indie games to fatten up that number.
Sony manipulated the numbers to favour Digital. They included games released Digital only as well as DLC.
My fear about these endlessly greedy companies is in the future you never get to buy anything, you buy time. So instead of letting you buy a game for $70, you buy 5 hours for $20. Then if you get hooked on something and put 100 hours into it, the game actually costs you $400…
Sony is having their don matrick moment right now. It would be wise for Nintendo and Microsoft to take advantage of this situation, once in the lifetime of a console.
THE INTERNET and it's AVAILABILITY and SPEEDS are still not acceptable for streaming games as a service!!!
I think Sony remembered the 20th anniversary of announcing the price for the PS3 and went, “let’s do something similar to that again.”
The 80% digital / 20% physical split sony used includes DLCs, MTXs, and indies (which are all digital). The big games have a wwaayy higher % of physical sales. also, why does a handheld need 128gb ram (or even 64gb)?
What Shawn Layden is not saying about that rising digital sales number is: Does it include DLC, season passes, microtransactions, expansions, subscriptions, etc? You know, the things you usually get on the digital storefronts. I think it does, and they're obfuscating the details to justify limiting consumer choice.

That 80% digital and 20% physical Sony kept slinging around had the digital including dlc, micro transactions, and subscriptions. Those are sales that would actually be lower in many cases if people would not have bought their physical copies and then needed PS plus or the new dlc.
We can have physical along side digital for movies, tv, books, and music so games should be no different! I will be done with Sony after this. If console’s dont have physical and its a closed platform then its best to work on backlog or move to PC since its open platform

20% for physical games is still an INSANE amount of money left on the table.
It's not just games, it's not just movies, it's everything that connects to the Internet. Cars, watches, tvs, fridges, even your ID, every company is trying to take ownership away from you. We need to push regulation on this now. It's already too late, we lost too much already. But we can still fix this, we can still bring us back. Protect the consumers from corporate greed!
I also get physical games from my local library and save a lot of money, they pretty much have everything.
silence may be waiting for the news cycle to switch to a different angry shiny object.
It is also flat out a LIE that physical is being outsold by digital as high as Sony would want you to believe.
