That’s why George always took Sheldon on his college visits because he enjoyed the experience as much as Sheldon did. George was a tremendous father and he sacrificed a lot for his family.

I never felt he was pretending to be stupid, he just didn't care enough to learn a particularly deep thing. He knew that there was a big spark of electricity going from sky to ground, which makes a sonic boom. He also knows that sheldon passively learned 100x more than he cared to know, and read 100x more than that. And that sheldon loves using his knowledge, so asking him

George is like the typical dad, having to compromise at his own cost and sacrifice over and over and over in his life and not getting the recognition for it, or at best to late often once he is gone. We dont always know best, but we try.
