🚗💥 Can a Dropping Drive Shaft Flip a Car?

They say that if a car's drive shaft drops at high speeds, it can catch a pothole and launch the car into a full front flip. The MythBusters decided to test this myth. For this, Jamie bought a car exactly like the one in the legend and modified the drive shaft so it would drop right on command. Since they couldn't find a volunteer to act as the driver, they equipped the car with a custom remote control system. After digging out a triangular pothole, they accelerate Buster to 45 mph, keeping the trajectory dead straight. At the last second, the drive shaft completely misses the target due to the high speed. Dialing the speed down to 20 mph, they make another attempt and hit it perfectly. The car pops up into the air, but unfortunately, it doesn't flip.
