Fully agree with you about the combat thing. To add to what you said, not being able to hide really helps make you feel like part of the ecosystem, at times youre forced to literally run and hide in the rocks, just like small fish do.
It's actually quite nice watching someone who isn't rushing through the story as fast as possible.
