It's been 3 years since any main branch updates and now after a year of silence it's been shown that they're trying out a new engine for a potential re-build. Why? Because the code is so messy on the unity version that they feel like they have no other choice. Is it the end for The Long Drive? Clearly not, but it's going to be a while till we see anything from it. SketchFab assets used in video → https://skfb.ly/pHWDE ---------------------------- This video is similar to that of a What Went Wrong style video. I didn't feel that the story was deep enough to turn it into a what went wrong, however I do feel that it was worth at least bringing together the top level timeline of what happened to a game that now sits in many people's libraries.

Bro said My Summer Car is set in the apocalypse ...Is Finland really that bad??
"My summer car, another car owning sim set in the apocalypse" Nah bruv, it's just set in Finland but I understand the confusion
yes my favorite technical debt sinking yet another project

As a software engineer, as soon as they started experimenting with multiplayer I groaned. Adding network latency into any system not built from the ground up to handle it is an absolute nightmare.
"My Summer Car is set in the apocalypse" Poor Finland catching strays.

I'd imagine coworker was more than just a side project in that it was them experimenting with a multiplayer game to practice and figure stuff out for the long drive.
I miss TLD, man. Had so many fun memories and the White Skoda song has been on my phone for ages
Binoculars are magical etheral Objects that most Mortals can not comprehend. Abiotic Factor still hasn't been able to fix theirs.

It feels sad to see this video have to pop up, but the lack of updates for a few years now has really started to make the game's state obvious.
I'm surprised changing engines had nothing to do with the Unity "stealing all of the money you make from sales" announcement
Recently got super into it, got so excited that I was really on a great run, finally figured things out. Asked my buddy when you get to the ending... he had to sit me down.
I wish the devs all the luck.
Finally, the eating time wizard
I am only now starting this video, unsure if this video will include this, but the developer spends so much time on the steam discussion forums fighting people who say the game is abandoned by stating usually "i dont feel the current progress is good/worthy enough to show off" They refuse to do dev updates because they have this idea of perfection in their head, despite the fact the game is an EARLY ACCESS game and its MEANT to be developed alongside the community.
