Remember that scene where Merlin’s ridiculous hand gestures actually unlock something epic? 👋✨ In Joe Cornish’s underrated fantasy gem "The Kid Who Would Be King," magic isn’t about ancient scrolls or wands—it’s about swagger. Merlin (played by the brilliantly awkward Angus Imrie) performs these frantic, clapping-and-snapping hand jive moves to cast spells, and honestly? It’s both hilarious and kinda cool . But the real power move? When Alex pulls Excalibur from the stone and realizes the sword doesn’t choose based on bloodline—it chooses based on who you are . No royal lineage, no destiny BS. Just a kid standing up for his friends. What’s YOUR favorite "unexpected hero" moment in movies? "Autism: The Merlin Story"
I love the zero context of the first scene. Just throwing hand signs, sneezes, and turns into a bird lol
Knocks on window Throws up gang signs Sneezes out an owl Disappears This is the shit I'd do if I had magic.
Little boy causes hyperinflation by spamming duplication spell
“I’ll be most impressed if you succeed.” Wisdom enough to not jump to saying the kid can’t pull it offf.
lends credence to the idea that we can't do magic because we don't know the correct sequence of gang signs
"You is a gangsta Harry.. you is a gangsta"
I loved the emphasis on somatic spellcasting. It’s so rare to see that kind of magic depicted in a visual medium like movies.
Arthur: lets go merlin. Merlin: *spamming gang signs.*
movie name "The magic of gangsigns"
He's casting Jutsus over here
Fuckin with the cops like that was unnecessary 😂 but I approve
*kid who uses sign language says hello* *accidentally spawns an interdimensional death lord*
The style of "magic" here is very reminiscent of that show "The Magicians". They do random hand and arm movements to cast magic too. One of the main villians had a whole backstory of "gaining power" via growing a set of extra pinkies.
Bro was like ☝🏻🫰🏻👌🏻👈🏻🤲🏻👐🏻 🤧🕊️
The Movie: "The Kid Who Would Be King" (2019) 2hr PG Directed by Joe Cornish
i love the detail about the duplication spell for metallic objects when the sword get duplicated the copy only get the metalic part, it doesnt have the handle like the original some other movie would just duplicate it like the original
Goddammit. I'm trying to find the name of this movie, and all I'm doing is laughing my ass off at the pun names.
