He didn’t audition at all for the roll. He was contacted and asked if he could sing after people noticed his appearance was shockingly close to Michael’s. Two years prior to even casting other members for the movie they were working with him for voice coaching in preparation for the movie.

They tried to recreate the haze that has the sequins shining like crystal but that effect is from the cameras of old, not any sort of filter or anything. It’s how he would have looked in person too
