Hi, I'm a Stockfish dev and wanted to explain the significance of this engine for those who are curious. Reckless is an open-source engine with very similar methodology to Stockfish (alpha-beta pruning, NNUE evaluation). I see the two engines as "teammates" rather than competitors because of the sheer amount of cross-pollination that happens between them. One nice example was one of my ideas (hindsight reduction) that gained ~6 Elo on Stockfish and was integrated into and refined by Reckless, and I brought that refinement back into Stockfish to gain another ~1 Elo. We're unlikely to see Reckless surpass Stockfish any time soon because any big idea implemented in one engine quickly makes its way into the other, but this is a positive since it means all the top open-source engines are benefiting from each other! There's also further collaboration happening between Stockfish and Leela Chess Zero, where Stockfish recently gained ~4 Elo from training on special data from Leela nets and Leela is using Stockfish to accelerate testing. Exciting times :)

Fun fact: for the first time in many many seasons, in the last TCEC it was not Leela vs Stockfish. Reckless came in as the Challenger, Stockfish won with 58 or something. While Leela has been dropped out of the top 10 strongest chess engines this year. Also worth noting that that elo gap between Stockfish and Engine #10 is less than 30 elos. We can really see Reckless overtaking Stockfish soon or just another super engine #2 that doesn't actually oust Stockfish
