Of the few clips lve seen of this game it very much seems like your 3D nature makes lighting/shape much more important than how well you recreate a texture.

It always seem like the more effort you put in, the easier it is to find you. I once hid as a ballon, and I was just one solid color curled up, probably only took me like 10 seconds, they had no idea and just ran past me multiple times.
