In today's cottage renovation vlog, I had a completely different video planned. My intention was to film an updated house tour and share the progress that's been made around the cottage over the last few months. But just as I was getting everything ready, disaster struck. A leak from the washing machine left water spreading across the kitchen floor, and suddenly my plans for the day changed completely. After all the work that's gone into renovating this space, seeing water where it shouldn't be was the last thing I wanted. In this vlog, I share what happened, the damage I discovered, and the steps I took to deal with the problem before it became something much worse. If you enjoy realistic renovation vlogs, home updates, DIY projects, cottage interiors, and the occasional renovation disaster, I hope you enjoy this one. Get out your shop vac wet/dry and you’ll be prepared for any additional water. Run fans as directly as possible to dry out the squishy place. Dehumidifier would help enormously.
I hired a dehumidifier from a hire shop when this happens to me, I was amazed how much water was collected
So sorry to hear the washing machine problem...especially with the new floor. But you are unstoppable! Love your positive, activist attitude. You just attack the problem immediately without fear. Go girl!!
I could of cried for you Catherine, hope it dries out OK ❤
You need a wet vacuum to suck up the water underneath the flooring without taking the whole flooring up
Oh Catherine I feel so bad this happened to you. The funny thing is I have gotten my husband hooked on your videos as well. Today we are painting our breezeway and I took a break to watch your video. I yelled to him “ Poor Catherine had a leak on her new floors!” He knew right away I was talking about you. When we watch someone for so long it feels like you are a cousin. Lol. I hope it all dries out with no further issues. 🙏
Next thing you purchase are moisture alarms for under the kitchen sink, refrigerator, washer, and water heater.
Dehumidifier
Put towels down in wetest area and walk on the towel so it can absorb the water.
Omg. I gasped when I saw all that water. I'd be in tears so good for you for having such a positive attitude. Brand new floor! 😢
Your insurance should check for water soaking up the walls.
So I can tell you this has actually happened to me...several times. And I've also actually had black mold as a result. But what I've learned is, open doors windows, for several days. The key is to dry it out. Treat for mold(even if you don't have any). Vinegar, bleach are cost efficient and work but they do have professional grade options. If you can when and if the waters been standing for any amount of time, lift up the floor, and base boards, let that dry out as well. My place is almost 100 years old and solid wood and I've never had to replace anything or hire a professional. You got this, your an awesome home owner and you do really quality work.
Oh NO.!!!!! I’m so sorry this happened to you. 😢
Oh Catherine, I am so very sorry. I pray it all works out for you. ❤
Washing machine trays that go underneath are available in U.S. (They should come with every washer, instead of being extra expense!)
Oh god love you, i could cry for you. You have worked so blinking hardand im so proud of you. Hope all goes well with insurance.
I cannot tell you how sorry I am you’re going through this, or how much I can relate. I have a floating, tongue and groove flooring as well. There’s a lot to say for tiles in wet areas. This just made up my mind, I was thinking about taking my tongue and grove into the kitchen. I think I’ll just update the kitchen and laundry room with new tile! Bless your heart. You jumping on the problem so fast probably will save you grief later on.
Oh no...sorry that happened. Thank goodness you were home ! 🤞 Hope all will be ok
Oh no! I’m so sorry this has happened. I hope you’ll get it all sorted out soon. 🤗
Get a moisture meter - we use one to check that our logs are less than 20% before burning. Its a dual pronged hand held meter that you can press into wood and surfaces and it will tell you if there's any moisture there. God bless, I hope that helps.
