Etsy needs to get their act together and stop allowing AI to be used on their app. It’s disgusting and a scam.
This is why I buy patterns directly from the designer or Ravelry.

Perfect timing on this one! I was looking at Etsy a couple days ago and there is so much AI slop that I can’t even…. I tried to report them but Etsy doesn’t even have a category to report Ai scams.
Etsy and YouTube seriously need to get their act together with the amount of AI and fake profiles that are ripping off authentic content creators
I noticed that an Etsy seller had copied a pattern I had used many times for many years, even using the original designer’s photos and photoshopping another head on them! I messaged the thief and told them I know they stole it, and posted the link to the designer’s listing of that same pattern. Then I messaged the designer and told her the other person stole her design and included that listing. Haven’t heard from either one but it INFURIATED me to see that happened.
MJ’S Off the Hook has had several of hers stolen as well. I’ve gotten to where I won’t buy a pattern off of Etsy if the store is less than two years old. I have found several stolen patterns on new stores. I report them as soon as I find them.
I would like to warn people against clicking random links in their emails or other messages. This is the easiest way to get hacked. Even the email addresses you visually recognise as trusted, can be spoofed. Your trusted source could also be hacked and used as a bot farm for more hacking attempts. So beware.
Honestly etsy is a waste of time now. They don't even care that their business is being manipulated by thieves who use ai
Thankfully I am one of your constant viewers so I made this bag from your pattern. Seasoned crocheters can usually spot these fakes but those new to the craft may not. Thanks for all your hard work keeping us occupied with projects and information.
If you’re blood pressure can handle it, let us know if/how Etsy responds. I don’t bother shopping there anymore as it’s so out of control with crap.
I’m glad you’re addressing this. I know that exact rage. I have a crochet dragon head drawstring bag pattern that has been stolen and resold several times, and it is exhausting having to constantly police Etsy to get them taken down. There's no automated check system, so it all falls on us. I hope because you are so well known, your voice can bring some much-needed light to this issue and push for real change. Small creators don't have the reach to fight this alone, so thank you for speaking up for the community.
The theft of patterns by AI sweep is just... sick. I had to pull down every free pattern I'd ever posted and will now have to list them for a couple of bucks a piece just to protect myself a little bit behind a pay wall. HUGS... this is AMAZING and your research is fabulous.

There is a quilt pattern designer that I really like, and her patterns are very cute and popular. Once I saw a "blanket" advertised for cheap and it was my designer's photo, but the "blanket" was a printed blanket and not a quilt. I alerted the designer and I don't know if she ever got it taken down. Very discouraging.
THIS is the reason I stopped selling my jewellery design on Etsy. The designs were swapped by other designers - before AI but I cannot even imagine that invasion of creative innovation. You are so calm I would go scorched earth on this vendor.
