Fresh eggs are supposed to be at room temperature and eaten regularly. If milk is outside the fridge it's long life milk.

In Russia we do not sell milk by gallons, but do sell vodka in 3-5 liter bottles. Not kidding.

We had a root cellar in the basement. Mom would store potatoes there in layers of dry dirt and they'd keep all winter.

If milk is not in the refrigerator, then it is UHT pasteurized. It is NOT the same as fresh refrigerated milk.

Eggs only need to be refrigerated if they've been washed If your eggs are truly fresh then you don't need to wash them, hence no need to keep them cold. Go to any farm in the U.S. and they'll have eggs sitting out in front of the place in a hutch for you to take, they're not refrigerated.

The one before the last (German grocery store) Of course there is milk in the refrigiator. The fresh one. The milk in the shelves is long-life milk (UHT milk)

Kroger used to have the scanner you used in the store to scan your groceries as you picked them, then just hit total when you got to the UScan. Dishonest people ended that during covid.
I do a UScan at my local grocery store every week, in tbe US. Itβs on the stores app, not one the store provides. I love it. I know how much I have spent before to get to check out.

We had stores in my town in Vermont. Open 24 hours but no clerks after 10pm. Honor system, scan your card. But then certain "communities" discovered our vacation town last year. Our little slice of paradise has to change because others have no honor for the honor system.

I moved to Italy and the carts moving to the sides was and still is amazing to me!
