This week has all the ingredients of a perfect summer at home... eventually! It starts with a couple of small frustrations as I discover my neighbour isn't home (which means I can't use her outdoor tap to jet wash the courtyard), and after an unsuccessful trip to the garden centre where there seems to be a distinct lack of plants. Thankfully, things soon begin to look up. I'm sharing the beautiful fabric I've chosen to reupholster my French bergère armchairs, making two wonderfully refreshing summer recipes, a traditional Spanish salmorejo and the prettiest lemon possets served in lemon shells, before the week ends on a very satisfying note when my neighbour finally returns and I can give the courtyard the thorough clean it's been waiting for. I hope you'll make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy spending a relaxing summer afternoon with me. I was a sidekick of the amazing interior designer, Myra Hoefer from Healdsburg, California, now deceased, Nicolas. Myra routinely chose painter's drop clothes from home improvement stores to upholster a great deal of her chairs. The drop clothes are made out of heavy-duty natural canvas in dreamy beige/taupe. That fabric was nothing short of sensational and endlessly affordable.
Regarding the tap I would say depends who pays the water bill, always polite to get permission first 😊
Power washing is such a satisfying way of sprucing up an outdoor space. Kudos to you for being such a polite and thoughtful neighbor.
I feel better when someone lends me something if I reciprocate. You could bring her muffins or invite her for a drink in your garden as a thank you.
You could make croutons with the extra bread to top your soup. Looks super yummy and refreshing
If you use your neighbor's faucet and she is not home maybe you could get her some pretty flowers to put in a vase when she returns sure she would love that !! 🌷
I love lemon and shortbread!
Hi Nicholas.I am from Andalucía(Granada) and I make Gazpacho without bread because It is less thicker and easier to drink with some ice.And when I make Salmorejo I use bread but not too much so It is creamy but very digestive.Garlic it's something that a use but also very little. You can make both récipes using more or less things you like or don't.No problem. The main ingredient it's tomate .I am very glad you like some andalusian food 🤗
Hey everyone, thanks for all your very lovely comments - I'm really glad to know you enjoyed this episode. You can read my newest Substack article here, where I share the story of how I learned to be alone. It's a personal one, but so good to share: /home/post/p-203685291
Nicolas,... make sure that Linen IS BACKED! ....
I don’t often leave a comment but I found this episode so relaxing and enjoyable I simply had to express a little something this time. I always feel like a slightly longer video is such a treat and this one was so lovely. It was such a delight to feel included in the casual enjoyment of beautiful small things in your life. It inspires me to do the same for my own. Cheers Nicolas! 🥂
Love the choice of the fabric both colour & texture.
Use the hollowed out bread crust as a bowl :)
Elegant linen fabric!
Hi Nicolas, love your show. I was in Scotland last month for 2 weeks and it was beautiful and memorable. Rented a car and my daughter drove so we were all over. Saw 9 castles (my bucket list). Would do it again.
Beautiful video. You always exude such a kind energy and delightful good humor.
Soup and dessert looks delicious!!! Have a wonderful day❤🇨🇦
Oh my word! That soup looks so good!
Not as hot as London 40c! Enjoy the perfect weather…
Thank you for these lovely recipes! I will be trying both. And you won't regret getting a Vitamix. They really are workhorses.
