I've got 13 different health and exercise habits that caught my eye as a Canadian living in England. Moving to a new country changes your entire routine, especially when it comes to staying active. Since moving from Canada to the UK, I have noticed distinct shifts in how people approach gym culture, daily movement, and general health and wellness. 0:00 fitness in the UK 0:37 daily life steps 2:33 seasonal energy 4:35 health care 9:20 weather changes everything 10:13 sweaty intermission 10:47 weirdly social 11:38 gyms vs gyms 12:58 what are you playing? 13:59 sports culture is totally different 16:44 a walk... and a pub 17:41 portion sizes 18:44 food regulations 21:04 hikes vs walk 21:37 so unserious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP3atJjN4YY https://youtube.com/shorts/sIeevAGZaLU?si=vVsGG67CCKvP8lnR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTmb2x8nGMU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toWjgNCev6w https://youtube.com/shorts/w-K2T5jL2bs?si=7Wa5jB2GuHeS5h44 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54aL1x-AtbA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg5tIaJkzgw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZL4Yj9IRzc Please subscribe here! https://www.youtube.com/c/AdventuresandNaps?sub_confirmation=1 Want exclusive content? Is it bad that I climbed Snowdon starting at 03:30am with 10 cans of Stella, a 6 pack of sausage rolls, and by the time I got back down (approx. 08:50am) there was nothing left 🤣🤣 (I smoked at the summit too 🤣🤣) I'm not proud, it's just a funny story from when I was a yoof 😅 my quote used to be "why go to the pub when you can BE the pub" lmao 😅
Re 16:44, the oldest long distance trail in the US starts and ends on a mountain top. But in the UK, the oldest long distance trail starts and ends at a pub. Pretty much sums up the British approach to walking!
Loved that you were reading Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island - one of my favourite non-fiction books!
If I planned a walk without a pub my mates would kill me. It's a must
When people go out and buy all the hiking kit for a walk, we usually refer to it as "all the gear and no idea " 😂
A Hike and a Pint? We call that a calorie neutral activity.
With my GP (NHS), I can ring at 8 am and get an appointment for the same morning.
Bill Bryson is so good. I have never laughed so hard on the train. When reading his books.
Just got back from my afternoon "hike" to to my local 16th century pub. After 3 pints the long walk home of 6 minutes was exhausting. Maybe I'll have a nother go tommorrow.
When I was younger, we just would hike from pub to pub in the countryside and get a bus or train back to where we started or make it a circular route
I have lived in Scotland for almost twenty years, having been raised in South Africa, and also having lived in Switzerland for a number of years and I still find the darkness in winter really tough to get used to. Having said that I love the light in summer. As we've just had the longest day, it's all downhill from here. Keep up the good work.
Regarding point 2 and the amount of winter sunlight, most people don't realise that much of inhabited Canada is further south than the UK. Toronto is further south than Monaco, so the days are longer there than here in winter.
How are you supposed to enjoy a nice long walk, if your destination ISN'T a pub that has been there since the 1600s?
With the eggs, it's not that the unwashed shells are thicker. What actually happens is that egg shells are porous, but have a natural coating that seals up the pores. The US practice of washing them removes this coating, which allows bacteria to penetrate the shell and cause food poisoning unles it's killed off by refridgeration. The UK/European practice of not washing them preserves the coating, so refridgeration is uneccessary.
Never mind a hike, I used to do Rugby Union training every Tuesday and Thursday nights and after 40 minutes on the scrum machine (front row player) and the dreaded running around the pitch nonsense, there was nothing better than 3/4 pints afterwards. After the game on a Saturday, there was no limit on the beers but always ended with a curry. Proper 1980's rugby fitness.
Your hair is beautiful.
Hiking isnt about fitness its about enjoying nature
We used to have a book called "tea shop walks in Britain", which was nice hikes/walks that ended up at a tea shop so you could have some revivifying tea and scones. Talk about civilized!

(Scotland here) I've noticed the walk/hike thing. A hike sounds more dramatic.
