That therapist is a scammer. The ones who give reasons and excuses to your abusers are absolutely not fit for their job and shouldn’t be working with people who’ve experienced any sort of trauma. Edit: to the handful of ignorant people in the comments who have decided this is neither abuse nor trauma, pick up a book or two and learn how to use your cognitive empathy. Ignorance and lack of education aren’t excuses for going out of your way to spread misinformation.

That’s a bad therapist

My therapist says that my parents were imperfect people without the right tools and like, yeah but so am I?

As somebody wants to be a therapist in the future, I think it’s so stupid that therapist always think positively like the world isn’t perfect. I think it’s dumb that they do that they’re supposed to be realistic not positive all the time.

Good therapist are as hard to find as good doctors. You need to shop around, test them, maybe perform a background check, and if possible, get academic records.

Therapy can be a very useful tool if accessed correctly. Your therapist should have then asked you why it’s important to you that your Mum told you you’re pretty, how the lack of it made you feel then, how you feel about it now, and what are you going to do about living with it now because you can’t control your Mum’s actions but can control yours and your perceptions etc.

Therapists are just mental health chiropractors at this point 💔

If this is genuine please seek out another therapist. Therapists are humans too which means they can be absolute dogshit assholes. I had to go through at least two before finding someone who was decent.
