In SAS: Rogue Heroes Season 2 Episode 4 (2025), John Tonkin is pulled out by German soldiers and has no idea where they are taking him. He thinks he is being marched toward execution, so he starts shouting about being a prisoner of war and having rights under the Geneva Convention. Even while terrified, he keeps talking in that sharp, nervous Tonkin way. The scene works because the fear suddenly turns into something completely unexpected. Just as Tonkin is preparing himself for the worst, the car arrives and the order changes. Instead of being shot, he is told that General Heidrich of the 1st Fallschirmjäger Division has invited him to dinner. The shift is strange, tense, and almost darkly funny, because Tonkin goes from saying goodbye to his family to being invited into a room where the real danger may be a conversation. He’s technically right. Because he was in a British uniform, he is considered a proper combatant, and not a partisan, thus making him a proper Prisoner of War, meaning: Yeah, technically they couldn’t shoot him. Unfortunately in reality lines are blurred and many people were either just following orders or had forgone any form of honorable service anyways.

It's things like this that during the final phase of SAS selection (SERE) mock executions are included after wearing down the candidates mentally to the point they start to loose grip on what's real anymore due to lack of sleep and malnourishment.
I think this scene would have made a bit more sense if the Germans were Waffen SS troops rather than Luftwaffe.
The series focus is on the formation of the SAS and their first C.O. Paddy Mayne... Paddy was bad ass before anyone really knew what a Badass was... F-ing brilliant.
