I remember when that happened. He was a guide and had two people with him. Shot six rounds of 38 caliber out of a pistol, one in the air and five into the bear, and the bear killed him and the other two hikers he had with him. Bear ate parts of all three of them. I saw the investigation and the picture. If recall right the park ranger was new to the job and he used a 7mm rifle. Balls of steel is what he had to have.

I mean, it's a great story, but I don't know of any handgun that takes a 7mm Magnum round, that can be quickly reloaded while a very large, very ANGRY grizzly is running up to try to eat you.

This is a true story except the gun used to kill the bear was a 7mm Magnum Bolt action rifle. It's a common gun used for killing Elk and Bear at longer ranges. If you poke around you can still find the photos (this was like 25 years ago). The hiker wasn't in the bear's stomach, he was a few hundred yards away partially eaten. The photos are gruesome, but all true.

If I remember correctly, it was a game warden that shot it. The bear would eat all the meat off the people except the private parts. They mounted it and displayed it at the airport.
