I want to give huge props to the devs for not introducing the monster with a loud noise or a cutscene. You just hear scuttling, and have to look around to find it chasing you. Fucking S-Rank reveal.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for playing our game!! It was so fun to watch you play and we are just thrilled that you enjoyed it! FYI the game has since been updated to support rebindable keys and a few other quality of life features!
Whoever programmed the centipede really knows how to make a creepy stalker monster. And good choice of design too.
Speaking of White Knuckle, you should try it again sometime! There’s been a couple big updates since you “finished” it.
The way the centipede pauses sometimes is such a good touch, very roach-like and natural looking. Makes it creepier than if it was just PJ Pugapillar-ing after you the whole time, feels more like a predator than a video game enemy.
"Man I wish there was some sort of mechanic similar to the goo, it really forced you to keep moving forward!" The indomitable centipede of unending despair and excellent timing:
"You get super cancer!" Iron Lung isn't leaving me alone
The idea that the Tower of Babel not only fell, but inverted, becoming a Pit of Babylon, is such an awesome concept. I hope more people explore this idea
“CATCH MEEE” slowly turning into “…catch me?” 😂
I’d love to see a brain scan of how his brain reacts when he finds a game related to digging, climbing and cleaning
Mark just couldn't get enough out of his climbing obsession
I think one of the cool things about the centipede is that, unlike the goop from White Knuckle and probably a lot of other 'its chasing you' monsters, it doesn't spawn behind you. *You* are delving into *its* home and you have to go 'past' it, which is an awful, awful feeling. Having to hurry past something that absolutely knows you are there is toe-curlingly creepy and has probably led to a lot of panic-fueled, bad decision making by people first encountering it. Case in point, our friendly neighborhood Markiplier here.
"Why is no one catching me when I scream?" That is what the centipede is trying to do
Mark! There is a lot more to this game than you realise including more maps. This is only the first map and basically functions as the tutorial, but you have to beat each map/mode to unlock the next. You have to beat Nightmare Mode to unlock the next map which is a step up from the map you just played. Hope that you see this and give the game another go!
A lot of this video is just "Local man doesn't fully comprehend momentum and inertia"
When the credits rolled, I saw a few moments of contemplation in Mark's eyes. He was trying to choose whether it was too soon to give another 30-60 min indie horror game the next 5 years of his life while he turns it into a movie. (all while we slowly chant "final stretch") lol
26:23 actually felt like a horror movie when someone’s trying to open a door but keeps dropping the keys and the monsters slowly making its way
6:43 god that tickling noise when that centipede crawls is terrifying, also mark "CATCH ME" 😂
an excellent part of the centipede's design as an enemy is that its segmented body and movement patterns combined with the low fidelity of the visuals often makes it hard to tell which end of the creature you're looking at, which makes you potentially misjudge how close it is or which direction its going and thus how much danger you might actually be in. like when Mark saw it moving at the end of that corridor and thought it was a good distance from him, only for the centipede to rear its head around the other side of the column and kill him. that's some genius enemy design right there!
The centipede is SO WELL DONE I just love it so much. One of the best monsters I've seen in a game for a long while. Possibly ever. Props to the developer.
