2:40 I'm no architecture historian, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the building projects during the great depression were conceived quite literally just to provide people with jobs. Like famine follies on a super sized scale. But at least with things like the Empire State or the Hoover Dam, it would provide long-term employment avenues even after completion.

i keep forgetting how new the USA is... here in europe its totally normal to see churches that are like 400 years old, and near where i live is a still standing church from 1440 (580 years old) and there is foundations under it from a demolished church dating back to before the year 1000 (over 1000 years old)

20:17 it might be a revival colonial style, mixed styles suburban building... So it might be from the 1950s + or from the 1910s (just because it looks very planned out and the bricks are very fine and not buff broken bricks) just a theory though

if we take real number. The statue of Hapiness (the gta IV equivalent of our liberty statue) stand on top of a stone brick structure, and the lower part of that stone structure, is a 1807 star shaped fort built to defend the city, but when the liberty statue was given by the french (the exact same guy that built the effeil tower by the way) the fort was reconditionned to be the pillar of the statue. so that fort is the oldest ''certified'' building of GTA IV with 201 years old during the event of gta 4 (2008) if we take the age of his real life counter part.

I’m a city planner in a suburb of a big northeastern city. One way you can tell the age of a historic home that has been substantially altered, such as the colonial home in the video, is by its position on the lot. Colonial houses were built before zoning laws and setbacks. As a result, they’re almost never set back the same distance from the lot lines as the neighboring homes. Moreover, they are typically situated right next to the street. There was almost no reason to set them back any further than absolutely necessary. Since this house seems to have the same setbacks, lot-size, and general placement as the homes around it, I would say it’s suburban tract house from the 1920s. Maybe 1900 at the earliest.

Some days this closing song feels like its a silly / fun song from someone cruising though life feeling like they're on top of the world. The “weird old amusement park from the 1910s or 20s” that you shot at is the Childs Restaurant Building on the Boardwalk, which was built in 1923. It’s giving me real childhood flashback to see it all dilapidated like that since they fixed it up in 2015, years after this game came out I think. Something I noticed was on the brick and wood building, the bricks under the windows were vertical which matched the examples of houses from the 1950s not the historical houses from the 1800s.

I love how every new video any austin releases is effectively going to become an entire genre.
