i hate the part where their daughter goes through lengths to get them government issued money which took months if not years to apply - then the dad got too prideful and said they dont need a handout smh

I think at the end of the day this movie shows why we need to embrace the disabled and be more community focused. All the extended family members feel anxiety raising their daughter because they feel she should be the sole responsibility of her parents, but can't be. The father feels the societal pressure to break off from his parents and raise a family, but cannot find work due to his disability. He has perfectly correct desires to be autonomous, and that shouldn't prevent him from earning money or doing honest work. Two disabled adults finding love and having children should not be a bad thing. And the take away from the movie should not be that. Our takeaway should be that our society harms the most vulnerable, children and the disabled, and we should do better

I was born with a form of Autism. I was treated poorly by my family, but ended up doing better than any of them. I succeeded better than they did and lived better than they did. My marriage lasted longer than theirs did, I avoided addiction, and out lived my siblings.

The movie is Wildflower. I just watched it on Prime. Cute movie. I cried a couple times but don't tell anybody.
