My pumpkin patch got completely out of control this season! After harvesting 24 pumpkins from a sprawling vine that took over a large section of the garden, it was time to clear the space, refurbish the raised beds, and get the next food crops growing. In this video, I show the pumpkin harvest, the garden transformation, and what I'm planting next to keep food production rolling through the cooler months. The new crops include celery, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, peas, potatoes and more. One harvest ends, another begins! 🌱 Thanks for watching and supporting Self Sufficient Me. Hi Mark, I am in Pennsylvania. I am laughing at your pumpkin "mess". Last year I grew Kai Kai squash or you would call pumpkin. They look almost identical. Anyway, I have a 30 foot tree (9+ meters) nearby and the squash grew the whole way up. I had to duck several times as I pulled them down because I didn't want them to knock me out. 😂
Very enjoyable video
I've planted just the chits and have grown potatoes. You let the spuds chit and then I use a spoon to gently scoop out a chit that 3cm-ish long. Plant into a small pot and grow it on till it's big enough to go into the garden. I'd mark the one that is rotting so you can keep track of how it does.
I love your garden so much! I'm sure I've said this before, but I have literally dreamed about being there and it is so beautiful❤
Much prefer these videos instead of all the product reviews 🙂
47 min self sufficient me? Count me in!
A few years ago we has over a hundred pumpkins, all of the plants were ‘volunteers’. This last season no pumpkins at all even though I planted seeds. Think I might go back to hoping for volunteers! 😂
Very nice I just bought some raised bed trying to gather material to fill thats free
I really love these longer format videos with a “come along with me” while I work on some garden projects slice of life feel. The pace is really relaxing and makes my anxiety about all the things that I worry about in my garden go down. It just reminds me to enjoy the small lovely moments even when things don't go perfectly to plan and gives me a little boost to keep on trying.
Mark have you put out fruitfly traps ? Cut the top off a plastic bottle, mix a cup of vinegar, a cup of water, and a few drops of liquid dish soap. Mix it and set it out.
Really enjoyed this one great to see you back in the saddle.b But Srewth, you have a heap of tasks in front of you and we are not 21 anymore, take care, bloke
REALLY enjoyed this video Mark. Loved every minute 💪
If you still have some of the green pumpkins lingering, I'd suggest peeling/slicing them and doing them up with cinnamon, ginger and sugar as you'd do apple pie filling. Makes great pies, coffee cakes and is a nice accompaniment for roasts. The filling freezes well.
Have you tried growing Moringa trees? You can eat the leaves, seeds and the roots.
Hi Mark! Yay for nice smelling mint to indulge your senses while working, and yay for getting to play in the dirt!!!! Booo for big spider! 😂 Nice pumpkin haul, can't wait for video about the topping up of garden bed! :)
Dang I wish I had that. I live in mn so we have to plan out since winter knocks out everything.
Thanks this is good! We are in the Mary Valley Qld and I can relate to the pumpkin taking over situation
Thank you Mark you always make gardening not just a job, but an adventure. lol Love the pumpkin jungle!
I was getting really overwhelmed with despair today, but I was calmed a bit by watching you fix up and plant your beds. Thank you for sharing your videos.
I can't imagine how much rain you have had for those vines to get so massive. I can only dream here in dry old South Australia. Winter is our wet season and we might get 10 or 20mm on a really good rainy day. When we get one!
