At the 1968 Olympics, high jumper Dick Fosbury introduced a revolutionary technique that involved going over the bar backwards. Many coaches, reporters, and competitors dismissed the idea as strange and ineffective. Instead, Fosbury won Olympic gold and forever changed the sport. Today, nearly every elite high jumper uses the technique that became known as the Fosbury Flop. Fair Use Disclaimer This video is for educational and transformative purposes under 17 U.S.C. Β§107.

He literally raised the bar
I didnt know they used to flying kick their way up the bar before. Wild
Their parent did him dirty giving that name π Bro I think I've made a small war I know it's a common name but the thing I said is also a joke stop arguing yall
More important than the world record is that he single handedly created the new and only technique used for jumping currently in the sport. He basically setted the standard of the sport
He did not just set a new olympic record, he changed how the sport is played.
RIP legend Dick Fosbury ππ» when competing in highschool I even used his technique
Thus was born the fosbury flop taught across schools everywhere
He set the game forever.
I remember watching those Olympics. I remember when he jumped backwards, the controversy, everybody freaked out
I remember watching him use his technique at the '68 Olympics in Mexico City. Was an awesome move and after 1968 you saw everyone else flying across like he did. Improvise and overcome.
Pretty much the same thing happened in ski jumping too :)
My track coach told me about him
Dick flipped the flop!
One man can changed the world
Managed to describe all of that without naming the technique- the fosbury flop
It always needs the ones thinking different and showing that it works to change things
They're like "woah what just happened here, did he just lay down in mid air?"
