Why does a hotel room feel clean in minutes, while your house takes all day? It’s not that hotel housekeepers are superhuman, they just use a highly refined system designed to eliminate inefficiency. In this video, I break down the specific workflows and systems used in the hospitality industry. From the "never touch it twice" rule to surgical-strike dusting, and I'll test how applying these systems at home changes the entire experience. If you’re tired of the endless "maintenance mode" cycle and feel exhausted just thinking about cleaning, this shift in approach might be the reset your routine needs. 👉The Mighty Circle https://minimalisthome.ca/circle Mighty Method Blueprint 👉 Get it FREE https://minimalisthome.ca/blueprint 🧼 My Fave Cleaning Products Mint https://bit.ly/3PdWHru Walking Pad www.walkingpad.com/KOLMINIMALISTHOME Use code for 10% off KOLMINIMALISTHOME Plum Planner 10% off: https://www.plumpaper.com/exclusive/minimalisthomeplease Ember Mug https://amzn.to/46UqB78 Kettle https://amzn.to/3Rn5ENL Walking treadmill: https://amzn.to/4gwyeXx Souper Cubes https://amzn.to/4bQEypU Jar Vacuum sealer for mason jars https://amzn.to/4cAV4Ks Amazon (as an affiliate, I make a small commission) Blog https://minimalisthome.ca (Affiliate- As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases) Hey! I think it’s quicker to clean a hotel/hospital room since there’s no clutter. The maids don’t need to clean around things. They literally discard everything.
I always leave the hotel room neat. Put all the towels, wash clothes piled together, trash in the trash can, etc. Just because it isn’t your room doesn’t mean you have to be a pig.
The most common ghosts are the visions dressed in white sheets with flailing arms. These are people who died while changing their duvet covers. They roam bedrooms forever, trying to find the corners.
I leave the motel/hotel room nearly the same as when I arrived. I’d be mortified leaving a trashy mess. The same concept no matter where I go whether it’s a campground, an Air bnb, as a guest at friends/family’s house, an RV site, backpacking, etc. Leaving places the same or better than it was if possible.
I worked in housekeeping for 25 years. Once you get your routine down it goes pretty quick. The last Motel I worked at I was there 18 years became the head housekeeper. Had to train the girls and had to inspect all the rooms when the housekeeper got done cleaning them. I'm proud to say we won awards for clean rooms
sorry one more thing, as person who cleans every week, and I saw from professional cleaner's vlog: I always wipe off before spraying with cleaners. Dust makes extra wiping when sprayed.
I had an aunt who was a hotel cleaner. Whenever she came to spend the weekends with us, she used to clean up and set up our house, and it always felt like a hotel
Video really starts at 5:14 after the endless rant.
I have cleaning kits for upstairs and downstairs….that’s really helped me
A FITTED SHEET STAYS ON THE BED better than a flat bottom sheet does. I solved the fitted sheet difficulty as follows: When I get a new sheet set, I mark the MIDDLE of the fitted sheet at the TOP & BOTTOM with a permanent Sharpie marker (or a machine zigzaged stitch in a contrasting color) so when I put the sheet on the bed, I don't have to wonder which is top & bottom or which is right side up. I put the sheet on by doing the DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE CORNER METHOD--that is, I put on one corner (start with whatever corner you like--top right, for example), then the diagonally opposite corner (bottom left), then the top left corner, & finally the bottom right. The secret to getting the corners lined up straight is to line up the seam in the corner with the corner of the mattress. You have to insert your fingers into each corner as you go & pull it to stretch it to line it up with the mattress, hold it in place with those fingers of that hand & use your other hand to pull the elasticized edge over the bottom of the mattress corner. I can put on a fitted sheet a whole lot faster than a flat one because it takes time to get the FLAT SHEET centered on the bed with the right amount of overhang on each side & then do hospital corners on all FOUR corners...invariably, somewhere along the edge, the sheet comes slightly untucked in the process, looking sloppy, and requiring another pass to tuck in the messy edges. Just my two cents here....
I was a housekeeper at a hotel in UK and we used a large roll paper towels for all. No cloths. Just the cleaning chemical and finishing it with the paper towel so its much more hygienic than cloths.
It all the stuff in the home that slows down cleaning. Cleaning is pretty easy unless there are built up messes to clean.
When i stay at a hotel/motel i use a sleeping bag. I place a sheet over the bed first, which is bagged later and disposed of. When i vacate i strip the bed totally, to encourage the staff to do the right thing.
"like trying to gift-wrap a live octopus" 🤣🤣🤣 always a good time for a laugh that hard - thank you!
Thanks for all the tips but never heard musculoskeletal pronounced like that 🤷♀️
I love cleaning and organising my home. I clean top to bottom but work my way round clockwise from the door so nothing gets missed. I use blue coths for toilets, pink for shower and sink. (Blue for loo, pink for sink) and only water on a microfibre cloth for glass and mirrors. Works for me!
As someone who cleaned condos, I assure you, it's a 80 percent speed and 20 percent routine. I got screamed at for being slow yet, I was one of the housekeepers that didn't have to go back and retouch or add something that was forgotten. These people break their bodies, rushing through the cleaning process. The system does help and having a cart and whatnot helps, but at the end of the day you can't really compare cleaning a barebones room over cleaning a lived in house. It's also a different mindset. Learning these techniques will help speed things along, you just gotta figure out what works for your individual cleaning style and home.
Hotel laundry room staff fold the sheets so that they go on the bed in a certain way. My mother did both jobs when I was young. Watching her snap a flat sheet on a bed in 3 motions and the 2 quick arm movements for each corner was impressive.
Amazon has a stack of 4-5 colors Mr. SIGA microfiber towels for about $12 USD. I use those. I also found a Mr. SIGA glass towel set. These towels are excellent for glass, granite, and stainless. I also keep a set of the mentioned towels in my SUV, along with a bag of cleaners. When I go to the carwash, I quickly clean the interior of my vehicle as well as dry and polish the exterior of my vehicle. It is SO much easier to just keep a clean vehicle and home routine-- than to let it pile up to the desperation zone! PS: Clean People dishwasher tablets are THE BEST! Sparkling clean dishes even in the midst of Rocky Mountain hard water!!
I think this video should be titled-what we wish hotels did because this is absolutely what they dont do,
