After more than 1 month using some flavor of Linux Linus, Luke and Elijah all sit down to discuss what they liked and didn't like about using it. While there are some cons (obviously) there was WAY more surprises and positives that all 3 experienced this time around. So much so that ALL of them are struggling with deciding if they are switching back to Windows or staying on Linux... I really liked the format and style of this video which felt like a round table discussion. Really well done!

I would LOVE to see a Dual-Boot video. It's the one thing preventing me from taking the plunge into a Linux primary / Windows secondary setup (ie. Windows for kernel AC games, and Linux for everything else), primarily because I've heard horror stories of the Windows bootloader overwriting Linux or TPM bugging out and preventing Windows from loading. A video with solutions to all these pitfalls would be amazing!

This is the best videon on LTT in years. And it's not because you did a challenge, or even necessarily because it was about Linux. When was the last time a video made here was become of someone's genuine interest? That passion shines through.

The key to embracing Linux is to be open to learning. Luke's attitude is spot on. The middle mouse click to paste has been a Unix staple since the start of GUIs. I remember learning this behavior on sun workstations back in the day. I'm so used to it I get frustrated using my windows mandated laptop at work.

Really glad y'all touched on the whole "would rather use an LLM than talk to other users" problem... the Linux community has a really really wide range of people, and not all of them are great people.

Thanks guys! I did the dual boot thing three years ago, thinking that it would be nice to switch back and forth for different things. What I found after a few months was that I was always in Linux. For me, the anti-cheat games were not a big deal. I don’t normally play them anyway. Everything else I’ve played in Linux just works. I do have a VM with GPU pass through so I can have fully accelerated CAD/CAM. That works great. With that, I don’t even have to reboot my system! Just switch to it and it’s on and ready. When I’m done, or someone wants to play a game, I save what I’m doing, push a button, and I’m ready to go. No reboot necessary!

Hearing Linus say "linux is ready and some day I will be too" was GOLD. Took me 4-5 years of dual booting and switching between 10s of different distros before I was ready to fully ditch windows. This was around 10 years ago when linux was even rougher than it is today.

Your series encouraged me to start my PC gaming journey on Bazzite! Coming from Mac and not windows, I’m really happy with it and have only hit a few quirks like Bluetooth not discovering devices. I’m on the same page as Elijah where the bazzite store was a breath of fresh air. I was expecting to do flatpak installs but I didn’t need to, I literally searched the store for my app, clicked install, and done! On the gaming side, my performance is good not great but compared to coming from the console space, I can see how the highs are higher and that overtime the lows will go away.

Nice to see your thoughts. I'd suggest keep trying different distros as well, and keep your home on a separate partition. Try all the different desktop environments as well, they all have a unique experience.

As an embedded Linux engineer who only ran headless servers at work, I used to believe Linux desktop wasn't cut out for daily use. Your Linux challenge completely shattered that belief! 🐧🔥 Inspired by the video, I gave it another shot: CachyOS on my home rig and Fedora on my laptop (both with KDE Plasma). To be honest, I am absolutely blown away. The gaming-driven evolution has made the GUI so seamless that I rarely even need to open the terminal anymore. I'm currently auditing my Windows app list to transition into a dual-boot setup. Thank you for kicking off this incredible journey—your challenge is inspiring a massive wave of us to rediscover and fall in love with modern Linux! 🙌

I've been running an arch build I did for work. Gotta say. It's pretty nice not having advertisements shown at login and knowing that my os isn't sending my info to advertisers. Also. Owning all my stuff is a great feeling

I have been using Linux as my main OS for years now. Today I learned I can just select text and middle mouse to paste. Thanks Luke!

I switch from Windows to Linux Mint right around the same time as this challenge and I am loving it.
