As 10 year Denver resident.... You picked probably top 4 most expensive weekend of the year this year. Fan expo, two night of Morgan Wallen at the stadium, outdoor days music festival, and a few other random events happening... And they all are happening in and around the downtown area lol. Just giving context for this specific weekend when it came to hotel rooms lol
"service fees" should be illegal at this point. There's absolutely no reason to charge $60+ (IME) in "service fees" for ... What? Barely anything? Virtually nothing? Unacceptable. It's an unnecessary charge that just KEEPS getting more outlandish.
i love how progressively the outros are getting indecipherable i think if i was a new viewer i'd be very amused and rewind bacK, its very funny how you roll through it
Also, with the microphones, it’s an accessibility issue. Some types of hearing devices get connected to the sound systems and people who think they can just yell are effectively denying access to a subset of HoH audience members
"William don't leave this in."
Local here: FanExpo Denver is notorious for not releasing the schedule until about a week before the con, and it is INFURIATING! I work one of the cosplay/community booths & we try to make sure our volunteers can also go see the things they want at the con, but that means we can't schedule volunteer shifts until basically the week of the con! This year, we had somebody who was also giving a panel, and the con changed their panel time MULTIPLE TIMES! Even after the con had started!! :screm:
Just a suggestion- Dragon Con in Atlanta has a strong stance against AI, you should definitely come check it out and experience it!
I went to fanexpo this year (after not going to cons for 3 years) and thought to myself “Wouldn’t it be crazy if Amanda was here? Nahhhh” And then YOU WERE THERE 😅 so now I understand those people who say “The chances of running into Amanda at a con are low….but not as low as you may think”
As a staff member, I cannot tell you how often this year I was asked "Where is Booth B??? Where are the Teamups??" Took me until Saturday to even figure out what it was referring to.
Part of the reason an artist might choose to be in vendors hall instead of artist alley even with an AA-style inventory is because often Artist Alley spots are awarded by some combination of lottery, judges panel, and some mix of both returning and new artists. You often don't know if you are in a show until very late depending on their award process. Versus vendors hall if you got the LLC paperwork and can write a check, they will guarantee you a spot, some shows even let you choose the exact booth, that guaranteed spot is worth paying extra for if you are doing it full time, touring a whole schedule of shows, versus gambling on judges and lotteries.
19:57 😂 oh, William
I laughed at your description of your choices and calling them murder hotels. That's the exact phrase my Husband and I use - we stayed in a murder hotel in Ohio when traveling once. . Never again.
Hello! Vendor here (you were actually in front of my booth for your short), this is my local show. Back to back is honestly very common now and different cons all moved around so that most of us did like 4 weeks in a row plus split the party to be in different states at the same time. And hahahaha, no- they don't do discount rates for squat (minus the giant corporates that have like 17 booths at one show) and put yet ANOTHER price hike this year, because their policy is "you don't like it, I have a waitlist". I worked with DCC before Fan Expo bought them (yay covid) and I cannot tell you how frustrating the Fan Expo team is and I'm actually surprised how positive this review is. They don't have an AI policy and then care even less.
13:31 One of the hardest things for genuine artists is that AI stole from them, so there are certain styles that are more common for AI to steal from, and the real people deal with accusations regularly, some even wanting to quit. MistyBlueBoxStuff had been one of my favorite digital and traditional painters for around a decade, but because they make paintings of people based on photo references with cool lighting and effects, people have accused them of using AI when they never have or will, and that's just the first that comes to mind.
I had a booth in the artist alley! I saw you walk by and it gave me a jumpscare lmao. It was a little weird this year because it's usually on 4th of July weekend, they had to change it because of the 250th for the USA and the 150th for the State of Colorado
FanExpo Events, in particular, are notorious for AI slop at this point, even in Artist Alley. Sadly, I think in recent years it has become a safe haven for AI scammers. On another note, as someone who has been asked to move to a dealer's booth due to crowding, I've had two things happen: either I'm offered a free guest table or free upgrade which is awesome, or I'm charged full price for a dealer's space and not placed anywhere near the artist alley (the place normal attendees go to buy art), often times those events end up being a pass for me in future years due to the extra cost and the people who want to find me, can't.
I went to fanexpo denver before it was called fanexpo one year and there were these like overwatch figurines that were being given out for free and for some reason the company giving them out got like way way way too many of them and by the end of the con the boxes for these figures like overtook the hallways and half the boxes still had the figures in them bc everyone was getting like five of these free cheap little chibi collectible things and no one really wanted them and that image is just burned into my brain
I am excited to see Amanda review my local con
I'm 25 seconds in and I can't watch the rest until the Ritalin kicks in, but as someone who works main stage panels for Denver Fan Expo, my heart is SINGING. THANK YOU because we need to be talking about Fan Expo; we NEED to be talking about Cons. That's the only way things can improve 🙏
Let's stop saying it's AI art and start saying it's an AI image. The person "creating" it is an AI Prompter. Let's not confuse ART with AI in anyway it's pretty disrespectful to artists. :) love your videos and thank you for supporting real artists <3
