It’s called “voluntary release”. It is the action that makes a catch a catch. And this fielder voluntarily did that. So it is a catch.

Mark Kotsay. WOW, i remember when he was just some years after i was at CSUF. His swing was sweet. Think they called him the Natural. Just a beast in college. Though he had a nice lasting career, i thought he would have done more. Seen a few players like that who were drafted 1st round , top 10 in draft and just didnt have that killer career. But glad he had 17 years though became a journeyman later half of his career.
