They didn't call it Steam Controller 2, so that if they ever make another one, they don't have to call it Steam Controller 3.
Valve naming it 'The Steam Controller' instead of 'Steam Controller 2' just to avoid the risk of accidentally having to make a Part 3 someday. They really are playing 4D chess.
Release the Gabe Cube
oh no, it costs the same as two usb cables from linus
Note 1 - When Linus is looking to the right of the frame he's actually checking the monitor for the top down camera to make sure he's got the controller in the right position, not reading the teleprompter (which sits on the lens of the camera) -DG Note 2 - We mistakenly missed the scripted part at the end of the video where we talk about the release date. Valve's "add to cart" (or purchase) date is May 4th. -DG Note 3 - We've removed the line about the ability to update the firmware wirelessly at ~5:58 as Valve let us know that shouldn't be possible. We seemingly had it update the firmware wirelessly during our testing but now we're realising it probably didn't actually update and was just pre-release weirdness. -DG If you're planning to pick up a Steam Machine whenever it launches, head over to /valve and register your interest for free. Or don't. We don't care.
You can tell the steam configurator is still barely getting any attention. It allows virtual hair triggers, joystick response adjustment, gyro aim on custom inputs etc etc.
*shits on $100 controller, tries to sell us $40 screwdriver*
The fact I can buy a controller with trackpads, there is no choice in my eyes. There's no competitor there.
This confirms Frame and Machine are delayed, huh?
This controller at 100$ is picking a fight with the 200$ pro controllers out there
Why is there no dual stage trigger 😭 this was the best part about the OG Steam Controller ...
Btw, the latency numbers are even lower than what's pictured on the graph while running SteamOS with the latest beta OS release. Straight from the patch notes: "Reduced handheld controller input latency from 5-8ms to 100-500us"
The DualSense is $84.99 USD retail now with Sony's price hikes. +$15 more for the Steam Controller to have more features than both the Edge or the Elite controllers (which are $199 and $149 respectively).
We got an official Steam Machine housing thing before actual details for the official Steam Machine
Refreshing for steam frame video
Come on, Valve. You could've called it the Steam Controller 2. Two joysticks, two trackpads, twice the price. And if you're worried about having to slap a number 3 on something someday, it won't be your next controllers. Just name them Steam Controller 2: Episodes 1 and 2.
ITS HAPPENING!!!1!1!11!!!
I think the trackpad sells it for me, what wasn't covered super in depth is the extensive customisability of the trackpads, having them acting as touch pads that can be both a wheel or a grid layout was game changing for me. absolutely loved it on the steam deck.
"The original but much much better" is pretty much exactly what I wanted. Price is higher than expected but , for me and my carpal tunnel right wrist, being able to play a bunch of games I already own but haven't been able to play for the last year ago significantly changes the value proposition for me.
Linus: 99 controller with many features - too expensive! 40 screw driver - best deal ever!
