The undercurrent of this video is how a video game you've paid for can just have its online parts be shut down without any ability to back it up yourself.
Beating a TAS only level is perhaps the most fitting and best way to beat super mario maker.
I think it's really nice that anyone who ever made a Mario Maker level got to have someone, somewhere, play through it. No unloved creations.
Dope video 😎 It was a long journey for us, but we’re very happy that we can call it a victory! Thank you to everyone who joined in the effort; it was a lot of fun! We’re still working on Mario Maker 2 of course, and there’s a lot of forgotten (and probably fairly easy) levels to get through still, so come join in! We’ve already cleared all the levels uploaded between 2019 and 2022, and 2023 is likely to fall sometime this month. There’s a lot of levels from 2024 and 2025 still, so we need all the help we can get!
The real treasure was the herbs we trimmed along the way.
Ahoyo: "I really hope this level brings people back to Super Mario Maker..." *The monkey's paw curled one finger.
It was kinda funny watching the pros say “when you look at the level it looks pretty easy” while gameplay is on screen showing a level with so much going on that I can’t even tell where Mario is
As perfect as it would’ve been for ‘the last dance’ to be the final completion, beating a level that the creator himself couldn’t beat epitomizes 0%
"Team zero percent has done it" - 14 minutes left in the video
Thanks a lot for making this video! It was a pleasure to be able to help with it alongside everyone else. The Team 0% story is honestly incredible, so it was really cool to see it covered in a documentary like this :)
Why did Nintendo make such a hard game? 😠
"Welcome Extreme" was actually a remake of the most viral Japanese level made on the FIRST DAY of Mario Maker. The creator of this remake did speedruns of it so much he made a 3 lap version with a tight timer and then uploaded it. I kinda wish this bit of lore made it into the video because it is a special level in its own way. It's great seeing Budoko get his own section, he deserves it for doing those levels 😂. He beat a level by the creator of Trials of Death called "Trials of Time", a gimmick that paused the timer constantly making a single attempt require more than 2 hours of game time to clear and wasn't automatic.
There's something really special that the final (real) level to be completed being called "The Last Dance"
"the last dance" and "trimming the herbs" are insanely thematically accurate names
Mario maker speedrunners are some of the most underrated speedrunners in the game. Nobody talks about them, but man they’re so talented.
Conan was not only sadistic, but masochistic as well: they had to pass the level themselves to upload it.
I love that Ahoyoo set out to become the Mario Maker 1 community's heel, and that plan actually ended up succeeding in the wildest way possible.
THE SALT HAS BEEN SUMMONED
the deadline is just such an enticing premise for a story
Trimming the Herbs being TAS sucks because the actual real last level had the perfect name of The Last Dance
