Today I have a car that can teleport to the location of an identical car. We are going to be using this to steal and boost cars in order to lose and confused the cops. Hey Treyten GTA developer here and to answer your question at 43:15 That lamp post in the middle of nowhere out by Paleto Bay? That’s not a “mistake,” that’s worldbuilding. When we’re doing world mesh passes and prop placement sweeps, we’re not just thinking “does this look pretty?” — we’re thinking narrative density and environmental storytelling. That lamp post is basically a diegetic breadcrumb. Paleto Bay is designed as a semi-rural, mid-transition township — you’ve got infrastructure creep where county funding tried to extend utilities but never finished the project. So when you see that lamp post standing alone, it’s hinting at urban sprawl that stalled out. Technically, it’s part of a lighting spline set we seeded for roadside props, and one node just happens to terminate there due to terrain topology. Instead of culling it, we left it, because it adds to that “half-done county work order” vibe. From a dev side, those poles also act as LOD anchors and occlusion markers, meaning they help break up sightlines and give the renderer something to chew on so the horizon doesn’t feel too flat when you’re screaming past at 120 mph. So yeah — it’s both an aesthetic accident and a design intention: a happy bit of “environmental noise” that makes Paleto feel like a real place where contractors ran out of budget in ’87.
