What really matters to human beings? With compassion and humor, mediator and attorney Larry Rosen opens a window into the human unconscious that will help you understand everyone, from your spouse to your mother to your boss, no matter how seemingly bizarre their words or actions. His simple and profound insight will improve every important relationship in your life. Larry Rosen is the founder of the mediation law practice Through Understanding, where he has helped thousands find solutions to crippling legal and personal conflicts. He regularly lectures on motivation and empathy at Berkeley, MIT and other national universities, as well as trains attorneys and business professionals to see the hidden human mind. At the heart of Larry’s endeavors is a simple philosophy: when people understand each other at a fundamental level, magic happens. They solve seemingly intractable problems—together. They build new and beautiful worlds—together. Larry holds a JD from the UCLA School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and was an editor of the Law Review. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

This man is a genius and well articulated
I am writing this while drunk however I decided after a night out I really wanted to change and after watching some videos about comedians and in general people I was told that understanding human nature gives you a step up on everyone else in life. I am 21 years old about to turn 22 and I barely understand myself, I barely do. Too a degree I understand why I do some of the things I do but not everything and now watching this I can have more insight even into myself. Today I had a hard day where a lot happened where I felt as if I wasn't seen, acknowledged and also brushed past. But when my friend asked me to come out drinking I realised I was accepted but I wanted more to fill that void, so. More of my friends came out with me and we ended up going in lack of a better term "OUT OUT" which led to us going clubbing and having a very good time. I really enjoyed myself and had a great time and at the end of the night after watching this I realised why I did everything tonight that I did. I wanted to be *Seen* , *Accepted* and *Wanted* and in the end of a grand scale as a result of my past experiences and treatment. Knowing this I can carry this for the rest of my life. I can now break down what I do and why I do it and heal those parts of me to make my life and the others around me easier but also understand them. Larry C. Rosen I doubt you will ever see this but thank you, you have changed my life.
Hands down the best tutorial I’ve ever seen!
This is the most engaging tutorial I’ve ever seen!
Awsome, just Awsome! I wish someone said this to me a whole lot earlier and more often
I love how he still admits that his guess was wrong and he that often gets it wrong--even if you understand the common needs you might not get it the first try. People are different and with a little communication you can figure them out :) Also, I saw the video say "8 years ago" and was all like "wow this is a really old but good talk" and then realised, 8 years ago was 2017 and not 2011 💀💀 In other news, I'm so down to start analysing my TV shows by looking at common needs now. When he got to "hurting another person is not a human need" I was like "Homelander-coded 💔" LOL.
I understood this so fast I need a moment to process my new identity.
This deserves way more attention than it’s getting!
I can’t thank you enough for this!
If learning felt like this in school, I’d have perfect attendance.
This just unlocked everything for me!
This video is a total triumph, absolutely outstanding!
You made learning actually fun!
I learned so much I need to lie down and recover.
This was masterfully explained, phenomenal job!
I’m actually excited to learn more because of this!
You have a gift for explaining things clearly!
I can’t believe how simple you made this!
thanks for giving us free education
I understood so much about human behaviour and the motivation behind it. Thank you.
