A Sleep Trick Most People Have Never Heard Of

Education

Ever find yourself lying in bed exhausted... but your brain won't stop thinking? As a neurologist, one of the most common complaints I hear is, "I'm tired, but I can't shut my mind off." This technique is called cognitive shuffling. The idea is simple: instead of replaying the same thoughts, worries, or to-do lists, you guide your brain through a series of random mental images. It may not work for everyone, but it's a simple strategy that some people find helpful when their thoughts are keeping them awake. Try it tonight and let me know! 🧠 Follow for more Neurologist Brain Hacks, brain health tips, memory strategies, and practical neuroscience. #sleep #sleeptips #brainhealth #neurologist #insomnia #brainhack

I hate having ADHD cuz the whole "you brain hates randomness" thing barely if at all applies Depriving me of sensory intake is legit the only way ive made it work

I recently learned the different phases of solving a Rubik's Cube at the age of 56😅 (using a kids book with silly 'stories' for each phase- perfect for my brain). I have found that going calmly through them gets me to sleep - usually before I reach the third phase. I visualize the cube - i.e. top, right, left and bottom clockwise or anticlockwise. Focusing makes the other 'noise' stop. If I'm still awake after all phases. I relax and accept it and read from a book on my phone😅 and usually am ready to sleep within minutes.

I suffer from severe insomnia, plmd, rls and have parasomnia. Many other things too but whats worked for me(sometimes) is i repeat the same word or phrase over and over again. Its not as easy as it sounds but it works sometimes.

Sleep and hydration are my 2 biggest downfalls. 😢 I have a crazy schedule with my clients and classes. It affects everything including when I eat, how much I drink and when I get to sleep. I keep working on it. I appreciate the tips.

Too much work. My brain would get all fired up like it’s a competition. You need something boring in the middle of the night.
