The only grass I've touched this past year is the big shortcut between Wario Shipyard and Cheep Cheep Falls that saves 3 seconds even without a mushroom.

finally... long cat
It felt like it came out yesterday can’t believe it’s been 1 year 💙
I feel like nobody is mentioning how much they gutted the replay function… No viewing after races, no customization like no mini map and no viewing bots, and not able to view any replays online.
The biggest issue with 200 routes isn’t that so many are bad. It’s that most players will never have the opportunity to learn to make routes fun like you have. Because you never get to practice any cool strategies. If you learn one, you might not see it for months. Even if all the routes were great, having 200 single lap tracks makes it impossible to learn the fun strategies (and remember/distinguish them).
i haven’t watched mkworld content in a hot minute so the routes being called routes instead of intermissions is honestly life changing
I love how the battle mode in this game (and every game after ds) is SO BAD it wasnt even included in the video; just completely ignored. What a shame tbh battle mode used to be pretty fun back then
Mario Kart World is a 9/10 game hidden behind 4/10 decisions
MKW shows that bagging is a track design problem more than an item design problem.
I will never understand why nintendo went OUT OF THEIR WAY to create an update that DIRECTLY went against what people liked, the 'random' feature selecting regular track only and specifically making it so that statistically choosing a regular track would be harder. It genuinely feels like they listen to fan feedback and choose to do the opposite to piss the most people as possible.
The switch up after people got the game for christmas and actually played it was crazy
I just want to say, one of if not the major target audience of this game is kids. Kids, especially younger ones, absolutely love free roam, often more than the main racing mode. I know this is a retrospective from your perspective and the community you are in. But kids don't have a voice like adults do, so a kid's perspective is often ignored by content creators (most of whom don't have any) and reviewers (whose target audience are adults who read reviews). But Nintendo does not want to ignore kids even though in online media the decisions they make with that in mind are ignored or disparaged. I don't think they always (although often they do) "ignore" criticism; in some cases, criticism is directed at intentional choices they made that just don't align with everyone. Great review, totally agree with a lot of what you say. Being lately more exposed to kids who game though, I notice just how different their experiences are from adults.
Not really surprising that ''sentiment'' around connected tracks has changed, all the people who vehemently dislike them have stopped playing the game. Especially after that update that killed the Random Pick exploit which I imagine was the final straw for a lot of people who come to Mario Kart to just play actual tracks.
8:07 I was one of the people who didn’t preorder and still got one 💀
Can’t wait for Open World Mario Maker
Man I can't believe this game is already a year old, so many great memories for it
Totally agree that "the tracks aren't designed for 200cc" isn't a flaw. It's why it's challenging.
