00:00 Empire Of The Sun This is the programme 'Wonders of the Solar System'. Professor Brian Cox explores the powerhouse of them all, the sun. In India he witnesses a total solar eclipse and in Norway, he watches the battle between the sun's wind and Earth, as the night sky glows with the northern lights. Beyond earth, the solar wind continues, creating dazzling aurora on other planets. 57:57 Order Out Of Chaos Discover how beauty and order in Earth's cosmic backyard was formed from nothing more than a chaotic cloud of gas. Chasing tornados in Oklahoma, Professor Brian Cox explains how the same physics that creates these spinning storms shaped the young solar system. Out of this celestial maelstrom emerged the jewel in the crown, Brian's second wonder - the magnificent rings of Saturn. 01:56:08 The Thin Blue Line Professor Brian Cox takes a flight to the top of earth's atmosphere, where he sees the darkness of space above and the thin blue line of our atmosphere below. Against the stunning backdrop of the glaciers of Alaska, Brian reveals his fourth wonder: Saturn's moon Titan, shrouded by a murky, thick atmosphere. 10:33 I didn't know about Herschel's measurement of the sun's energy, that was really cool! Very intuitive and profound approach to quantify something every one of us is familiar with. It reminds me of Galileo measuring the squared relationship of gravity by rolling a ball on an incline and spacing bells out by distances of increasing squares (1in, 4in, , 9in, 16in, etc) so that they each rang at the same tempo.
This is the series that got me into Astronomy, cosmology, physics, etc. Brian is truly amazing!
Brian Cox is today's Carl Sagan 😀
Geezers? :) Guyzers Brian, Guyzers (phonetically)
Dear YouTube, it is very annoying and disruptive to be slapped in the face with an ad every 3 minutes.
:49:06 I thought I was watching an ad for a Chevy Tahoe for a minute 😅
Starts the doc off in the worst place in the Solar System, the Ganges
It’s incredible how he makes me listen to it. It’s so beautiful how he explains it
It’s amazing to me that in order to understand the universe we needed to understand particles and quantum mechanics.
the suns light reaches the stars, all the sky where the stars are turns baby blue in the daytime as the sun is shining on the sky, and no black hole is seen in a day blue sky, then that black hole theory is not stronger than the suns light, the moon shines bright at night in a dark blue sky, and the suns light fades away at dusk, that shows the moon gives off its own light, the ground of earth is still and steady below our feet, the ground of earth only moves in human experience during an earthquake a landslide a mudslide or perhaps during an avalanche the earth is not flat while there are mountains and valleys, because mountains and valleys are not flat, and the sea is not earth, the sea is water, earth is dirt, the ground we walk on, the shape of earth is italy looks like a boot, the shape of earth is determined by a cartographer, we are called American because of the cartographer Amerigo Vespucci
Geezer Butler is the only Geezer on earth. When nasa gives you ANYTHING free it is a lie.
I’ll bathe in my shower, thank you very much.
I bought the DVDs when they came out because I was so moved by Brian Cox and I think it was at least 10yrs ago . The music , the production, the passion . The best
listen up republicans
I would love to go see his talk in Seattle but there's only a few seats left and they want a thousand bucks for them..
Probably one of my favorite programs death or whiskey
As I listen to Prof. Brian Cox and look at the pictures he presents, or just his description, I can feel my face light up and then I look and see the same expression of excitement on his face. I imagine sitting down with him over a cup of tea/coffee and just sharing a conversation about the wonder of this magnificent universe. Wouldn’t that be great. of us getting excited and more eager to learn more.
this is amazing! we are so blessed to have this for free . my brain is smiling
Ruined this with the obnoxious music ear graping me.
I don't subscribe to a religion but there's a lot if coincidences that make me go hmmm. The perfect size vs distance between the moon and sun being one of them.
