I'm a Tom Landry-era Cowboys fan, since '63. This is the way the game was played when I started watching it. Somewhere around 1990, when Paul Tagliabu, a lawyer, took over as league commissioner. In 2006, Roger Goodell became commissioner of the NFL, and the league has steadily become softer and softer. I agree that something needed to be done to protect the quarterback, but the league went overboard with it.🏈

They want massive d lineman to gracefully place a QB down with a pillow I suppose. What the NFL expects defensive players to do while charging full speed at a QB defy the laws of physics. Oh your helmet grazed his helmet. Personal Foul 15 yards. Did your pinky touch his facemask while you were trying to swat down a pass? Personal Foul 15 yards. Pulled down to the ground and crash into the QB's knee? Personal Foul 15 yards We've lost so much over the years as they've pansified the league

In those days the defense was actually allowed to be competitive. In this era, defense on the field fuflills the role of the team that always "played" against the Harlem Globetrotters.

And one of many reasons i haven't watched an nfl game in over 19 years. Everyone of those plays would have been a flag not to mention a commercial break before and after.
