SPORT AND POLITICS "As a global organization, the IOC has to manage a complex reality. The IOC has to deal with the current political context and the latest developments in the world". "The ability to bring athletes together, no matter where they come from, is fundamental to the future of values-based, truly global sport, which can give hope to the world. "For this reason, the IOC cannot involve itself directly in political matters or conflicts between countries, as these fall outside our remit. This is the realm of politics." - IOC statement *** Did you notice? Nobody grills American tennis players about US instigated military conflicts durin post match press conferences. * I hoped, that this year WTA/ATP/ITF, would stop this nonsense of mixing sport with politics. Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth. Appointing "flag police" at tennis tournaments is not even childish... it is embarrassing and insane... Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen. Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag? USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq. A current invasion of Iran by the USA and Israel is is an apex of hypocrisy. Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them. Interestingly enough Israeli tennis players are allowed to play under the national flag despite the policy of their government towards Palestinians in Gaza and the recent invasion of Lebanon. *** "Sanctions cannot be imposed on athletes from Israel and the United States because sport must remain a beacon of hope" — IOC * It is a matter of time before U.S. President Donald Trump is presented with the "WTA/ATP/ITF Peace Prize – Tennis Unites the World" simultaneously nominating Bibi Netanyahu for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. * All wars are equal, but some wars are more equal than others.
