That is a surprising amount of trunk space for what looked like a small car.
Aptera has reached validation and preproduction stage with only $150 million, a small fraction of what other new EV companies have spent to get to the same point. With the thoroughness of their development and validation, Aptera will be the most thoroughly tested new EV to hit the market, With the incessant increases in gasoline, utility electricity, and commercial DC fast charging prices, the appeal of Aptera’s 3x efficiency advantage and up to 40 miles/day of solar charging will go to the Moon (perhaps the Sun is a better metaphor).
Hurry up and get them into production already

Heads up, Aptera fans - in their SEC filing on 13 May 2026, Aptera said: “As of March 31, 2026, our existing cash and cash equivalents were not sufficient to fund our current operations for the next twelve months. These factors, among others, raise substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern. ” and “Following the successful capital raises in early 2026, management estimates that an additional $45 million to $50 million is required to fund the initial low-volume production phase of our Carlsbad facility.” and "We expect that the associated work would take approximately 12 months to complete from the time such capital is fully secured." So, based on what Aptera said to the SEC on 13 May 2026, if they get the $millions they need by the end of 2026, they will be able to start selling vehicles as early as 2028.
If this is solar powered, does that mean it can charge as you drive?
3 wheels also makes for less weight, better aerodynamics, and fewer parts... the rear suspension on a 4 wheeler generally weighs a lot.
SAFETY and 350 MPGe = 100 Wh/mile, 250 to 1,000 mile range, 8,000 to 11,000 free miles from the sun, more miles by plugging in at 1/3 the cost. And they did all that while improving on safety. The Aptera is far safer than what I'm driving now. Some of its safety features are ideas borrowed from F1 cars. It has a carbon fiber tub, carbon and steel roll cage, air bags, large crumple zones, amazing accident avoidance in the Moose Test, and its body shape has impacts glancing off it instead of being impacted into the occupants.

Geat interview by an open minded reporter, just asking pertinent questions the majority of people would ask without passing judgement. Allot of negative comments and questions are seen due to their vested interests in big oil and i.c.e. vehicles in general Compared to the Aptera SEV, technology wise; they are "dinosaurs" whose time has past.

Except - it is NOT a solar powered car. It charges just like any other EV. Solar does not produce enough to actually run the car. That 40 miles a day charging is when the sun is optimal. If it’s cloudy then less. The only use case that works is an apartment dweller who parks outside and who has a very short commute. You can do the same with any car with a couple of solar panels and a small battery.
When I reserve mine three years ago, the price was going to start at under $30,000 for 250 mile range. So much for that.

I was in the 8th grade when I saw a “movie” about a solar powered car! I am 76. The fuel industry never wanted us to have this! The original greed of America!
This would be perfect for a lot of people that don't need the back seats. 40 miles per day is more than most people drive per day and for the rest it's realistic that you'd only need a charger once per month or so. That solves the issue of EVs for people that live in apartments and can't charge at home.
