My brother keeps score like this and its one of the things that destroyed our relationship. He never saw the fallout of the things that he did as they sometimes put me in danger or completely ignored my personality and what I would even like or appreciate. He would dismiss the reality and push his intention to the forefront. He would bring things up years later that I had done as a kid as proof of my lack of integrity and failure as a person. My mother does similar things but uses guilt instead. It is absolutely about control and ego. They can never be wrong because they prioritize intention over consequences. It translated to me being a love bomber in all my relationships and I still struggle with this instinct to keep score.
