So true the difference between America’s Hospital care and the rest of the world. The parking is horrendous no matter where you go.

Feel you. The parking and the coffee from the vending machine were the most expensive items every time my wife gave birth at the hospital. Those 20€ almost bankrupt us. Three times!

My dad spent 5 months in hospital. Several surgeries. Afterwards 2 months in rehabilitation. Cost: 280€ Germany isn't perfect. But I am so grateful to live here. Not to worry about money and focus on your loved ones health is ❤

A friend of mine fell in Italy. They took her to the hospital in an ambulance, monitored her for several hours to make sure she had no concussion, put stitches in her chin. When she asked how to pay her bill, they were genuinely confused about why she would think she would have a bill for her medical care. This was two weeks ago. The US is so far behind Europe in this area!

Here in Australia if you are admitted to a public hospital for surgery, the Pay TV (which is often from a private company) can cost as much as $14 per day. Most Australians consider this outrageously expensive for a hospital stay.

I'm from the U.S. I've said it before, but Americans are only opposed to universal healthcare until they turn 65. Then they gladly go on Medicare, which is a single-payer government-run healthcare plan. Funny how they only oppose universal healthcare when they are younger.

Universal healthcare is awesome! My late wife was from the USA and we lived here in the UK. Not long after arriving she felt unwell, so I said that I would book an appointment with the doctor, and she said, “we can’t afford that.” She looked at me in confusion as I laughed. She then looked at me in shock and disbelief when I told that we do not pay medical bills. She used to say that the NHS was the best thing ever. She would tell any Brit off who complained about it, “you don’t know how lucky you are, you don’t want the American system that’s for sure.” We saw a doctor one time, and they said that if she had stayed in the USA that she would already be dead. She lived another 10 years after that. The reason that she would have died earlier in the USA, was because she couldn’t afford the copay on all of her medications, even though she was fully insured.

I’m an American that lived in Germany in my 20’s, and in 2011 I was in a motorbike accident where I flew over the handlebars and my face (open helmet) smacked into the pavement. I needed an ambulance ride to the hospital, four hours of reconstructive facial surgery, spent five days in the hospital, and was out of work for three weeks. Not only did my care cost nothing, I was also given paid sick leave. Living back in the states now, people are floored when I share this story.

Me a Canadian who went to the hospital, stayed there like 2 days due to my tonsils and was at risk of death and then they sent me to another place to get them removed and it costed me nothing 😌

Just as a reminder. If you are american visiting Germany and you need a hospital stay, you WILL get a bill, as you don't have german health insurance. But that bill will be significantly lower than what you would pay in the US. There is an amazing video by Type Ashton how her mother, visiting Germany, needed an emergency brain surgery, and how this all worked out. Basically, if you don't have health insurance that covers a stay in Germany, you have to pay. But the bill will be manageable, as the prices in Germany are not inflated as they are in the US.

Welcome to Europe, we actually want you to get medical care without going into debt or die because you have to make a choice between your health and bills

American number fifty trillion, realising their country sucks and they still don't do anything to change it!

I got an X-ray of my hand yesterday (not broken YAY!). Parking would have been the most expensive part of the process. Luckily i live within walking distance of the hospital.
