Reason that Scandinavia, mostly Sweden and Norway, often fail to compete is due to the unfriendly conditions of football. Mostly sparsely populated countries with harsher winters. Better conditions for Ice Hockey, Skiing, etc. sports that don't involve grass pitches, lol.

Bringing GAIS instead of Häcken is a crime. Häcken has improved drastically in recent years and even won Allsvenskan💔🇸🇪

Bodø/Glimt made it far both in both Europa League and Champions league, and Djurgården made it to the semi finals in conference league the past 2 seasons. I think it’s fair to say that it’s possible for Scandinavian teams to ”compete”

In 2019, development began on a Bene Liga (Belgium/Netherlands). Both UEFA President Ceferin and the Belgian clubs were enthusiastic about this. However, in 2022, the Dutch football clubs withdrew from the project. If the Netherlands were to merge with the Belgian league, the Dutch clubs would have to give up two European tickets. For the Dutch league, which normally finishes in 6th or 7th place in Europe, this was a major step backward.

We tried a competition 15 or 20 years ago or so, called the Royal League. It was in addition to the domestic leagues, though, and wasn't very popular and economically sound, so it got discontinued after just a few seasons.
