For those who don't know the original 1954 Godzilla suit, known as the ShodaiGoji, was a groundbreaking piece of special effects history that weighed a staggering 100 kg (220 lbs) due to its construction from bamboo, wire mesh, cloth, and thick latex. Worn by legendary stuntman Haruo Nakajima, the suit was so heavy and suffocating that internal temperatures reached 60°C (150°F), limiting filming to just three minutes per take to prevent the actor from passing out. Two versions were ultimately built to allow for basic movement, though neither survived the decades, eventually deteriorating completely after production wrapped.
