The worst are the guys that say, "Gimme a..."

I usually say thank you but not please. I feel like it’s common for them to ask “what can I get you” and if not I’ll just start by “can I get a ____” and say thank you after the order.

East coast considers efficiency polite. It’s seen as rude and selfish to take up someone’s time. Skipping the pleasantries gets right to the point and takes less time. Just like how it’s rude to not know what you want when it’s time to order. It’s seen as rude to the people behind you in line.

I was in. New York restaurant for breakfast have an animated conversation with by buddy, when the waiter placed my order in front of me - I turned mid-sentence and said ‘thank you’ and the waiter barked- Well if that’s the way your gonna be ! And stormed off -as if my manners was a sarcastic dig !

Please is a regional thing in america. Depending on where you are it'll either be sincere, snarky/rude, or the word please just isnt in their vocabulary

You can go anywhere around america, and it's always something a little different in each place

No, dont stop saying please. In the uk, you're raised with manners. They're free and they're nice to have

"Could I have/get..." is how I start orders, and I ALWAYS say "please" and "thank you". My husband and I use "please" and "thank you" with each other too. A little courtesty adds a nice flavor to interactions.

Growing up in the South, please and thank you are drilled in you from an early age. I was at a very crowded Happy Hour at Old Ebbitt Grill in DC. I was ordering 3 drinks once I got the bartender's attention, so I was very efficient with the order. Then I stopped and smiled and said please. When I tried to pay, he waved me off, and said manners count. Of course I tipped him very well.

Idk I'm American lived in New York and always said please and thank you. There are assholes and nice people everywhere

It's funny because many Europeans see Americans as so nice in service situations to look fake or insincere. The Northeastern cities tend to be different because people are more direct, straightforward & without niceties. But London is also like that

Born and raised in NY he’s right but you can’t be an asshole to everyone handling your food and expect nothing to ever happen. Most people say thank you but no one is saying please constantly. 😂
