After surviving super-cyclone Sidr as a child, Sohanur Rahman went on to help drive major national wins: in 2019, a campaign he led pushed Bangladesh’s parliament to declare the climate crisis a “planetary emergency,” and YouthNet helped halt 10 coal power plant projects. He founded YouthNet for Climate Justice in 2016 to mobilise young people for climate action, and more recently he and his group were active in peaceful student protests for democracy - following the 2024 uprising that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after 15 years in power, he continues pushing for climate action to stay high on the interim government’s agenda.
