Beginners guide to programming the Garmin G1000 in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk in Flight Simulator 2024

Education

Today we take the Cessna 172 Skyhawk for a flight from Mackay to Hamilton in Australia - but the purpose of the flight isn't really to fly the plane - it's to show you how to programme the G1000 by hand - including departure airport, destination airport, en-route waypoints, and procedures (SIDs, STARs and Approaches). I have prepared a step-by-step guide to most of the functions in the Garmin G1000 - you can download a copy here: https://ko-fi.com/s/8d167d5596 #msfs #flightsimulator #aviation #flying #flight #simulator #microsoft #asobo #tobii #garmin #g1000 #navigation #fms #c172 --- Useful resources: My homepage: - https://jonbeckett.online My flight simulation blog (subscribe by email for free!): - https://jonbeckett.substack.com All of the functional procedures I have written up to get aircraft up and running in simulators: - https://ko-fi.com/jonbeckett/shop The flight simulation community I founded (join for free!): - https://virtualflight.online --- Resources I use to create content: Microsoft Flight Simulator - https://www.flightsimulator.com/ Navigraph (charts, flight planning, and tracking) - https://navigraph.com Copyright © 2023 Jeppesen. Just working through this. It's a right click on the end of the rotating knob to get the cursor in there.

Thanks for the great video! I just started playing this last night and I'm having a great time. I want as much knowledge as possible

Sorry, I know you doing a great job and you really know your stuff but for a beginner, it’s difficult to understand what you’re talking about. I don’t have Navara and I don’t know how to set a flight plan really. I guess I do what the EFB tells me to do. I’ve had a real problem being successful at the ILS approaches. They’re just not working for me. I need a real beginner guide as to how to do these ILS approaches.

I think the Cessna has VNAV...I'm pretty sure I have used it. You said it does not.

Good job, Jonathan! Your pace is perfect. So many others on YT seem like they are in a race to meet some phantom time constraints on their videos.

This was a ridiculous flight plan for a beginners guide.

Another great guide thank you for putting it out there. How do you zoom in/look closer like when you looked at the PAPI lights at /L9TqegJyPXU?t=2666? I can look closer at instruments in the pit via headtracking Z-axis, but it seems you could look closer at something outside the pit. Cheers

Quick question...im using Xplane 11 and when i set up my flight plans, i never get an "origin" and destination. The rest of the flight planning goes normal. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Hi Jonathan, thank you for your excellent guide. It’s super helpful and really improving my rookie skills. I truly feel like I’m learning now. Since following this instruction, I finally “get it,” and I’ve enjoyed it much more because I understood it better and felt less frustrated. Keep up the great work!

You can deploy flaps 1 at 110 kts to bleed off some speed. Why did you not use the Approach Mode button?
