Old military leadership, fighting the last war, not the next one. Maginot line, permanent trenches.
Could 800,000 soldiers have changed the outcome with a different strategy?
Ok, so here is a thing, Fall Gelb REALLY should not work when looked at through the conventional miliary metric. as BOTH German staff in detail and French one in passing basically concluded no one would/should be insane enough to try. A number of Axis sucesses in WWII is related to, sometimes outright gambler like, risk taking. That is not by accident, it is because Axis powers KNEW they are poised to lose a long war, in fact Japan outright went to war with "We are certain to lose peace, and only massively likely to lose the war, therefore war gives us a CHANCE so war it is". If you look at verry likely long term defeat, you will be more risk friendly, because you conclude "might as well". Might as well try Manstein's crazy idea because the other alternative is to repeat WWI, get grounded down to hell and lose.
In the Battle of France alone France lost 90k soldiers.....not to mention they provided security for the Brits to run across the channel....

The logic of the Allies in 1939: 🇵🇱 - Hitler's armies are engaged in Poland. Attack western Germany so he has to fight on two fronts 👊. 🇬🇧/🇨🇵 - No. It's better to wait until he wins on one side, rebuilds and strengthens his forces, and then transfers them all to one front against us ✌🏻.
