The irony is not lost on me of the AI subtitles consistently changing “Malus” to “malice.” It knows…
He's treating the evil of it as a joke, but the customers are not.
If Malus has several customers who are making proprietary versions of the same OSS project, how does Malus propose to ensure that each output is unique enough to avoid infringement lawsuits between former and future customers?
The fact that the auto-generated captions kept spelling the company "Malice" made the whole thing more enjoyable.
"Malus"... a Latin word for "Evil." Run by a guy sporting a classic devil style beard. We really are living some truly interesting times.
I love that this company's entire business model is stealing other people's work and that their name is a homophone of "Malice."
I feel like open-sourced software isn’t exactly taking candy from a stranger; it’s more like taking candy from a group of strangers and they give you the full ingredient list. Closed-source software is candy from a company without an ingredient list and you just have to trust that they have your best intentions in mind.
That malus guy is exactly how i imagined him to be. massive 4chan vibes
When the company name doesn't try to hide what they're about...
I'm pretty sure this is my introduction to your channel....and I am deeply grateful for your community, and the comments. My middle age autistic brain, would not have picked up on the sarcasm. This was quite the trip. Thanks for the info.
"we're liberating open source creators by taking any power they had and stealing their work" how is that 'liberating' people?
Hopefully big companies that use open source sue the heck out of Malus. Open source saved my sanity as a user years ago and now we get pricks trying to milk it for money while giving back nothing.
You want to liberate Open Source development? Donate to the developers so they're not doing it after working all day.
"I'm not killing you, im liberating you from worrying about food and water"
"If any of our liberated code is found to infringe on the original license, we'll provide a full refund and relocate our corporate headquarters to international waters" is so peak
It is funny that youtube captions show Malice, every time Malus is said in the video.
At 6:40, one BIG reason open source devs are "overwhelmed" is the denial-of-service attack on their time by the firehose of crappy AI bot code submissions. Malus literally means evil.
"you wouldn't take candy from a stranger, why would you run their code?" Maybe because it's ~open source~ and literally everyone can review it. To put this in terms of his candy example, it's like saying a stranger wants to give you candy, and right next to the stranger is a chemical analysis lab that's free for anyone to use so you can find out exactly what's in this strangers candy before you eat it...
He calls it Malus for a reason. It’s like naming yourself “Dr. Evil.”
6:20 But he takes code from a stranger? AI?
