Some of the most fun tanks in War Thunder are ones with big cannons that aren't particularly effective, but feel great to use due to their immense damage. if i remember correctly the problem with HESH is that it OR pens OR overpressures, but doesn't do both at the same time, and when penning ofc it does f all dammage (which is why the most reliable shot with big HESH is tracks, cause there is nothing to pen there so it will overpressure)
remember, this gun in testing took the turret off of a centurion and and split a conquerors turret open, this is a round that was able bend a centurion hull but gaijin seems to model it like bad heat
9:05 apparently HESH is currently modeled to either do explosive damage like an HE, OR, to create internal shrapnel with its 'penetration' value, but doesn't do both. The result is you hit a tigers mantlet and it doesn't overpressure but shoot the roadwheels and it does

Fun fact - even without the detonation, the felt impact force of a 183mm, 72 KG projectile hitting an object at 710 m/s is approximately 87 tons. That's why the recoil of the gun literally picks up and moves the 50 ton FV4005 chassis.

The 4005 can turn its turret all the way around IRL, gaijin just limited it to the frontal arc as its instructions recommend because it's a British vehicle, and fun is not allowed.

TL;DR is that HESH functions kinda like HEAT used to where it checks for penetration *THEN* checks for overpressure and only applies one of them. Which is blatantly inaccurate. Feex eet gaijin
They nerfed the things already horrendous reload by 5 seconds last major update aswell. The thing should either have its HESH fixed or be moved to a lower BR.
